The school had a positive behaviour policy which staff were trained to deliver, however there was a lack of consistency in its application, particularly with regard to consequences. Incidents were recorded using a paper trail which was ineffective. The paper system made it difficult to monitor and analyse the behaviour data. The combined effect was higher levels of inappropriate behaviour within the school.
IRIS Adapt provides us with an accurate picture of behaviour at whole school, year, class and individual pupil level. We can also track and analyse behaviour by pupil gender, pupil premium, SEN and more. This enables us to target specific children and groups for intervention. We can now identify pupil needs efficiently so that swift action can be taken. This has had a huge impact on pupil behaviour within the school. During the last 3 years there has been a 60% reduction in poor behaviour across the school.
We can now collate information more easily, inform parents more fully and deliver a more consistent response to behaviour than previously.

About the school
The school is larger than the average-sized primary school with two classes in each year group. The proportion of pupils eligible for support through the pupil premium is almost double the national average. Two thirds of the pupils come from minority ethnic backgrounds with the two main groups being of Pakistani and Caribbean heritage. A large proportion of these pupils speak English as an additional language, with some at the early stages of learning English. The proportion of disabled pupils and those with special educational needs supported at school action is above average, as is the proportion supported at school action plus or with a statement of special educational need.
